Welcome to The Mill France!
About the Founder:
London born Nathalie Edwards feel in love with the region of Aveyron following a business trip.
Looking to expand her life & her creative practice, and desiring a more creative way of being with increased connection to nature & the seasons, more space, and capacity to share her home with others, she began her search for a suitable building in the region in 2016. She will tell you that The Mill found her!
Some 2 years later in November 2018, after much world renowned ‘French Administration’ , Nathalie became the owner & Founder of The Mill France - A Place of Connection, Creativity & Connection.
Now a successful business facilitating artist & writers retreats and the Co -Living for Creatives Residency Programme
The Mill which dates back to pre 1735 and sits on the banks of the River Cernon in the Tarn Gorges - a UNESCO area of outstanding natural beauty in the region of Aveyron.
Sitting on the edge of the small village of Saint-Georges-de-Luzençon The Mill is close to the thriving market town of Millau with a population of some 25000 inhabitants , and 2km from the Norman Foster designed beauty that is the Millau Viaduct. With good bus and rail connections between Millau & Beziers on the mediterranean coast
Since taking ownership in 2018, Nathalie has renovated the mill alongside a host of incredible Workawayers (see volunteers section) and help from friends, family, and the local community. (It is a true labour of love and people feel that love when they visit!)
A working flour mill until as recently as 2000, Nathalie has retained many of the original features and protected the building’s history while simultaneously transforming the interior spaces into something magical.
The Mill now welcomes writers and creatives from all over the world, many regularly returning.
One of our lovely reviews:
Who knew a few clicks could bring me such a valuable experience. I was looking for a very specific kind of experience for a writing retreat: I wanted something cozy, familiar, and picturesque. I also wanted independence and focus to write, but I didn't want to feel alone. The Mill gave me all of this and more. Nathalie's hosting skills are out of this world, and supplemented my focus and ability to write for hours each day. In addition, there were so many opportunities to fill the creative well: a long hike ending in wild swimming (so cold, but so worth it), a cozy film night in the salon, an afternoon spent in Millau. The Mill is absolute magic. I sat by the river and meditated, fell asleep every night listening to it running outside my window. I felt so relaxed I could actually feel my creative flow returning to me. I loved gathering for each meal, catching up with the other guests. Connection, Creativity, Community - The Mill fulfills its promise, and what you put into your experience you will receive back tenfold. I'm just waiting for the next time I get to return :)
